Window film is a fairly recent invention, and since the day it was conceived, it has been applied in countless areas because of its benefits. Window films help protect the surface they are applied on, mostly glass and glass derivatives. Window films and tints also help reduce solar damage, make vehicles, homes and stores more comfortable; and extend the life of your belongings. Nevertheless, there are many myths surrounding window tints, so we decided to name them myth by myth and shine a light on them to reveal the truth.
Myth # 1 Window Film Lifespan
Window films are perceived as being disposable- in other words, they are easily damaged. Most people believe that after a year or two, window film will begin to lose color and bubble up. The truth is that window film is durable, and is designed to last for decades if it’s installed by a professional. Although this myth may have been truth in the early days of window films, modern tints and films are made with durable materials that are bound to last a long time as long as they are installed properly.
Myth # 2 Low-E Glass Compatibility
Low emission glass is becoming more and more popular, and many believe that window films void the effect of Low E glass. This can’t be further than the truth: window films are compatible with all kinds of glass and do not affect the performance of low emission glass, regardless of where it’s installed.
Myth # 3 Window Film Effectiveness
Window film is very popular because it helps block and prevent UV light damage. This is very true, however most people believe that the effectiveness of window tints and films fades after a while. This is completely untrue: window films are designed with adhesive technology that does not decrease with time. As long as a quality film was installed by a professional, window films will remain as effective as the day they were installed. The average lifespan of window films and window tints is north of 20 years, and even then, they will begin to peel before losing their effectiveness.
Myth # 4 All Window Films are Created Equal
The biggest myth of them all says that all window films are the same, so you should always go for the cheapest one. This is completely false, as there are many different kinds of window tints, made of different materials and for different purposes. Films are categorized, but not limited to, metalized, ceramic and hybrids, so thinking all are the same is not even a real possibility.
